The Red Scare was such a shocking time. It’s amazing what she endured and yet how she persevered in exile with her ideas and convictions. I fear the US was/is heading in that direction again in some ways despite its claims of freedom of speech. I guess that monitoring is on a different level now. I wonder how the TB stay shaped her work or views. I imagine that survival gave her more courage.
Thanks for another great post, Kate! I was thinking as I read this that her life would make an important and interesting film. If George Clooney wanted to follow up Good Night and Good Luck....
Thanks, Kate! Yes, I think I noticed a film on bbciplayer about the red scare and that whole time in history the other day...you are so right about a film of Claudia though! Why don't more of these amazing stories get told? I have to be honest and say that I got interested in her life because my teenager is currently studying that era of US history and politics. We have been having some lively debates around it all!
I've never heard of this incredible woman before, thank you for introducing her story!
You're welcome! :)
Great post, thank you Kate. What an incredible woman. What else she could have achieved if her life wasn’t so tragically short.
Thank you, Victoria. So true; such an inspiration.
This is why I love your newsletter - learning about incredible women. What an incredible life cut so short.
Thanks, Jenna! Wasn't she just incredible?
What an incredible person she is, wow. She really was a radical and shook up society, leaving a positive legacy behind her.
I know! Quite remarkable :)
I always like knowing about people I never heard of before- this is one such case.
That's great to hear, David! I love that about writing & reading on here :)
