This was just the kind of literary relationship gossip that I just DIE to read!!! Thank you so much for this piece, Kate! Also - I don't know where to file the reference to Virginia's preference for purple ink but I feel like I need to make sure more people know about it!

Really enjoyed this post! But as far as I'm aware Virginia didn't drown from Richmond, but from Monk's House in Rodmel near Lewes.

Thanks! You are totally right 🙄 I have made a typo there. I have to confess, it's been a bit of a week, I shall rectify that now 😀

Really enjoyed this recap of these fascinating relationships between the lovers and artists of the Bloomsbury Group. Takes me back to a visit a long time ago to Sissinghurst - would love to return there someday. Thank you!

I have always loved their letters so much. I really appreciate how you contextualize their other relationships here, though. Leonard loved her so much!

Thanks, Haley! I know…I kind of fell in love with Leonard through the film of Michael Cunningham’s The Hours (I know it’s fictional, but still) and thought they must have shared a special relationship, despite her passion for Vita.

Orlando is such an asset to the world. :) Such an interesting quote from Vita about it!
