Fantastic essay about female writers and their relationship to the streets! I think there are so many connections between those early female authors and women’s protest today.
Wonderfully thought provoking. I’m thinking about the visibility (on both sides as you say; desire for both invisibility and object if the gaze) in relation to some female filmmakers like Varda and Coppola. And even thinking of myself in relation to the city and visibility. Thanks for this lovely piece. I have a City A Text post scheduled in a couple months ; will share a link to this embedded in it :)
Thank you for reading Kathleen, so glad you found it thought provoking, and very kind of you to share the link in your upcoming post! I love living in a city and reading about them in literature and essays, so very much look forward to reading your response to it : )
