You have definitely piqued my interest in reading Jean Rhys; I read Wide Sargasso Sea many years ago and must reread that - and also read other works for the first time. Thank you!

Thanks, Bea! Wide Sargasso Sea is where a lot of people find Rhys, I think. Most of her other are quite different to WSS, but her precise use of language and modernist style prose are always there. I hope you enjoy checking more of her work out : ) One of my favourites of her novels is Quartet, and Voyage in the Dark is really interesting, although quite dark in its themes.

Really enjoyed this - I’m so fascinated by Jean Rhys. I love her writing but I have to be careful when I read it because it can be a bit too depressing at times! Wide Sargasso Sea absolutely blew me away as a teenager; such an important book.

Thanks, Kelsey! Yes, I totally get what you mean! I loved studying her and her work for my MA but her books are not what I'd call happy bedtime reading...I think her writing style is so precise with no words wasted.
