Chopin's loss of confidence following the commercial failure of "The Awakening" was unfortunate considering the later importance other writers would attach to it.
I agree, David. Such a loss that she didn’t write more novels.
But at least she (and George Washington Cable) created a remarkable historical literary canon around the old days of New Orleans.
