This is such an interesting look at war life from a new and different perspective. For a literature and history lover, it’s fascinating to see women’s roles at this time - and how her entries have become an important insight into this time period. Thank you for sharing :)

I think you would really enjoy Nella's diaries, as a history and literature lover! Her insights and prose clearly show that she was a frustrated writer at heart. I wondered as I read how she would react to the interest in her words now; she probably couldn't have comprehended that we would be talking about it!

Thanks Sam, her diaries were another discovery on the same course I first read Bainbridge, funnily enough. Reading the diaries just made me wonder how many other people (particularly women) of the past had creative talent that they never got to express.
