Really enjoyed reading this as I liked that you approached it from a 1973 and 2023 perspective. It was also interesting to read about the media image of female and male celebrities and how they are certainly treat differently. A great read.

Thanks, Kate. Yet another author you’ve introduced me to. Yes... we have come far, but there is still far to go...

Great thoughts! I love how you’ve linked the book to popular culture. Although it may not be quite as shocking today, I think there are still a lot of relevant themes - especially about attitudes towards women. I also like that you mentioned shows like ‘The Bold Type’ and ‘Good Trouble’ as it’s great to see a range of relationships represented on screen. Thank you for sharing, I’ve added ‘Fear of Flying’ to my list :)

What an enlightening, contextual review - I’m sure I have had this on my shelf with other feminist texts and just have never read it! I must! And I also want to check out the tv programs. Thank you for this fascinating discussion!

Another one for my list, thanks, and great ideas here as well. I love the way you analyse yourself as a reader as well as the Taylor Swift extension of your points.

I read 'Fear' back in the 80s and really enjoyed it, might give it another go.
