Great idea! Both for books and places to holiday 😁

I forgot about 'Hideous Kinky'! I didn't realise it was semi-autobiographical. It's always so interesting when a book is told from a child's point of view - it gives us a new perspective on what happens in the novel. I can relate to Charlotte Runcie's pull to the sea - I'll have to check out her book. Great suggestions :)

I know! It’s an unusual book, it’s hard to imagine it was semi-autobiographical, I think. I still haven’t seen the film, but I’d like to. I know you are a fan of the sea, so you would probably enjoy Runcie’s book! :)

Although I am not a seasoned traveller, I think there is something here for every type of break. This is a brilliant read.

A great collection, Kate. I loved the ‘Perfect For…’ idea. And thanks for that 90s nostalgia hit with ‘Hideous Kinky’! :)

Thanks, Victoria! I’ve read a lot of great ‘books for summer’ list, but thought this take added a bit of fun and practicality :)

I loved all of the recommendations and the way that they are grouped into a theme, it feels less overwhelming that way. I also love how you paired each with an ideal destination/type of travel. I now very much want to read them all and do all the holidaying! Thank you xx

Haha! Go for it, Lyndsay ;) The best thing about these books are that they are fairly slim volumes that would slip nicely into an overnight bag :)

Wonderful! Slim volumes also sounds good as I take a while to read anything these days…! I am off to the Devon coast next week and feel like Charlotte Runcie’s book could be the perfect accompaniment xx

Omg, yes! It would be perfect for a trip to Devon! The Devon coast is so beautiful 😍

These all look great, I’ll have to check them out. And for anyone who fancies digging into classics from a while back, do take a look at Full Tilt by Dervla Murphy.

Ooh, not read that one, will check it out! Thanks, Jon :)

Love the Summer of Love series - what a great idea and thank you for these recs. I've not read any of these books, so this list is awesome to have for the growing summer TBR pile!

Excellent! And they’re all relatively short, so ideal for days out in the sun :)
