Great recommendations! I’m going to check out the series’ you’ve recommended - and it’s definitely time for a rewatch of The Devil Wears Prada! The Chair is brilliant :) thanks for sharing x
I love it all too! I'm a huge Nicola Walker fan. And I do love the sound of that new Sandra Oh series on Netflix...I do struggle to find things on TV that both myself and my partner enjoy; we inevitably end up with cop dramas! Like you, I'm a big fan of the BBC iplayer, and sometimes question why I'm spending £5 a month on Netflix when it is so much better quality! (And BBC 4 is an absolute gem, filled with programmes about the most obscure subjects that are either right up your street or not interesting to you at all. Regardless, the sheer quality of BBC programming shows that, despite criticism of the Beeb, it still makes TV that's the envy of the world.
Thank you for your comments, Linda! Yes, we end up watching a lot of cop shows as a couple, too! Hence Unforgotten. We mostly watch BBC iPlayer these days, too, and would probably cancel Netflix if it wasn't for the kids watching it. The Chair is just brilliant though; original and with such great characters and really funny.
Lovely recommendations as always! I’ve been meaning to read Anne Tyler for years; this may have been just the push I needed. Also - I’ll be in the UK this summer and I reeeally hope that adaptation of All Passion Spent will still be on iPlayer!!
Thanks, Kelsey! I only came to Anne Tyler's books during the pandemic (I think somebody gave me one) and found them just the right level of gentle but meaningful for that time. I've since read quite a few (there were lots available to buy cheaply on ebay) and although some are less memorable than others, they are all really readable. French Braid was possibly my favourite so far.
I also hope All Passion Spent will still be on for you! I think it might be available on YouTube but probably for a fee...anyway, it is so painfully English and genteel! I'm sure you will love it :)
