It’s back to school month, and I’ve been feeling all the back-to-routine vibes!
I’ve had a bit of a change around in my “day job”, taking on more work but working from home more this month. This has seen me having to re-think my routines, trying to ensure that I have protective time in place to write and work on my newsletters.
I don’t know about you, but I find it almost impossible to write for any concentrated length of time at home; there are just too many distractions. But I have been trying to adapt my routines to allow time for more short bursts of writing in the in-between spaces. I’m finding it all a bit of a learning curve at the moment!
What I’ve discovered more than ever is that I am definitely a morning writer, not an afternoon one. Mornings are most decidedly my most creative time to write, think up themes for my essays, and find research to back these up. Afternoons are fine for reading and editing, but I am always more productive in the morning.
I have also reminded myself this month of how important it is to recognise that it’s not just sitting at the keyboard that constitutes the writing life. Reading, getting outside, and sitting in coffee shops: all of these are conducive to eventually putting down words on the page.
I also love September, not just for the changing colours of the trees or those late summer days of hazy sunshine, but because it is the month I got married to this guy. We celebrated our 26th wedding anniversary earlier this month- which seems absolutely wild to me!
So what great reading, watching, and listening has been keeping me company this early autumn?
